Become a “Friend of the Blues”

It takes an entire Community to “lift” the Columbia Pike Blues Fest every year. It is one of Arlington’s biggest street parties and one of the best outdoor live music festivals in the region. We have enjoyed amazing music for more than 20 years, and it’s FREE for all!

The Friends of the Blues have been the backbone of the Blues Fest from day one! Without the hundreds of individual contributions, this event would have never been possible. The annual Blues Fest is the Pike’s big open-house day, and of The Friends of the Blues help make it all possible.

Please donate today!
$100, $50, $25 or any amount you can! Every dollar counts towards our fundraising goal of $5000!

Columbia Pike Paint-A-Mural Project

Bring out your inner-Andy Warhol and be part of creating a mural highlighting Columbia Pike landmarks! The whole family can be involved in this participatory mural project, which has been designed by noted Arlington-based artist David Amoroso. He’s created the framework, so all you have to do is paint between the lines with color and creativity!

The Book Project: Columbia Pike Recipes for You 2016

From Ethiopian to Salvadoran, the flavors of Columbia Pike’s restaurants are as diverse as the people who live and work here! Artist Sushmita Mazumdar has designed 16 formatted pages which feature recipes from The Pike’s restauranteurs on the front, and compelling stories of their personal journeys on the flip-side! Choose as many pages as you like, then select binding materials ranging from cinnamon sticks to spoons to make your own custom Columbia Pike cookbook to enjoy all year around!

Art on the ART Bus Exhibit

Want to just cool off for a moment? Take a break while you lounge on one of the two current Art on the ART Bus mobile galleries that will be parked at the Art Island, featuring dynamic original paintings in the overhead panels! Part of a program started in 2010 in partnership with Arlington Public Transit, this exhibit showcases several Arlington entrepreneurs. A second bus (which you might be able to catch, as it’s been assigned to the “45” route on the day of the Blues Festival) features images of local restauranteurs. Both current exhibits feature the work of Arlington-based artist David Amoroso, and were curated by noted artist Cynthia Connolly in partnership with Arlington Economic Development’s award-winning BizLaunch small business assistance program.

ON MY MIND / IN MY HEART “Tough-but-tender soul and rollicking, rootsy R&B…infectious, revival-meeting furor” –Boston Globe

Boston’s Jesse Dee is a singing, songwriting, guitar-playing soul man—a modern day trailblazer inspired by the old school. Dee’s passion is exploring and updating soul music for contemporary audiences. With his warm and honest sound, his instantly memorable melodies and positive, slice of-life lyrics (evoking the heyday of the Brill Building songwriters), he accomplishes just that. His inventive, hook-filled songs are delivered with buoyant, youthful exuberance. Live, he always brings down the house, and keeps his ever-growing fan base coming back for more. His band lays down driving, infectious grooves while Dee’s expressive vocals put him in a class by himself. On the strength of his fervent live shows, Dee plays to packed clubs in New England and has toured across Europe, earning new fans at every gig. The Boston Herald declares, “Dee has an explosive voice. He possesses a powerful, raspy tenor and an uncanny phrasing ability that can’t be taught.” Dee won the 2010 Boston Phoenix Music Poll Award for Best R&B Act, both for the strength of his live show and the aftershocks of his 2008 debut CD, Bittersweet Batch (7Not Records/Munich Records). With his new album, On My Mind / In My Heart (AL 4952), his first for Alligator Records, Dee is now poised to break into the minds and hearts of music lovers across the country and around the world. Artist Site

DAVINA & THE VAGABONDS have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, level A musicianship, sharp-dressed professionalism, and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits, the band is converting audiences one show at a time, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe. In 2011 Davina released her first full length, all original album Black Cloud . It was named one of the 10 best releases of the year by the Minneapolis Star & Tribune and awarded 4 ½ stars from Downbeat Magazine. Their next release in 2014, Sunshine, hit number 13 in the Billboard Blues Chart and led them to be a musicial feature on the hit BBC show, Later with Jools Holland. DATV’s shows are filled with New Orleans charm, Memphis soul swagger, dark theatrical moments that evoke Kurt Weill, and tender gospel passages. Davina’s voice and stage presence defy category in a different way. Davina has been compared to Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday and Betty Boop, but comparisons don’t suffice: Sowers is a true original. Artist Site

Grinding down the soles of endless pairs of dancing shoes somewhere between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Bosley cut his teeth in Baltimore’s sultry DIY dance halls. Charm City’s native son, Bosley knew that he had to get funky or die . For the past few years, has been churning out blazing, high-energy live performances and eclectic, original pop music. Bosley performs his unique brand of vintage soul/R&B with his sexy nine-piece band that kicks ass wherever it goes.

The Dirty Dogs Radio Show is his second album and is earning rave reviews and winning the hearts of new fans worldwide. Bosley has shared headlining bills alongside Sharon Jones and the Dapkings, Galactic, and shared the stage with the likes of Dr. Dog, Old Crow Medicine Show, Nickel Creek, and the Easy Star All-Stars. His music has been featured extensively in film and television, including the Comedy Central show Workaholics as well as the film Begin Again starring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. Dance parties welcome. Artist Site

Awe-inspiring master guitarist and vocalist Bobby Thompson is no stranger to the blues and rock world.  He cut his teeth learning to play in the old blues clubs of D.C. from the likes of Bobby Parker.  After honing his craft as a much sought after support man, Thompson decided to step out as a solo artist, releasing three albums since 2011.  A recent review from Roots Music Report claims Thompson’s songs portray “muscular blues- and soul-rock strong on soulful vocals and cut-above-the-norm originals.”  With his smooth, gripping vocal stylings and his perfect musical taste on anything with a string, Thompson is what’s referred to as a “musician’s musician.  Considered a “must see” act of the Northeast region, Bobby was nominated for the D.C area Musician of the Year award in 2015.

The Bobby Thompson Project is his latest collaboration with New Orleans groove master Jeff Mills and Mississippi bass extraordinaire Danny Infante. This trio is wrought with deep emotion and blazes down the path pioneered by the great Jimi Hendrix, blending deeply-rooted blues traditions with a popular rock edge to create a sound that will stir every soul. Artist Site

Warner Williams and Jay Summerour have been playing music together under the name of Little Bit A Blues for nearly 30 years. During their tenure together, they have recorded several albums, including one under the Smithsonian Folkways label. Eric Selby joined up with Warner and Jay several years ago, completing the current trio. Icons in the genre of piedmont-style, acoustic blues, Little Bit A Blues has become a fan favorite nationwide. Often shying away from the media spotlight, they have continued their musical journey together while gaining a large and loyal following. Individually and as a group, they have received numerous awards and recognitions in honor of their commitment to delivering real-deal, acoustic blues. Artist Site
