Job Description

The Executive Director acts as the principal officer of The Columbia Pike Partnership and is responsible for the successful administration, management, and implementation of the Partnership’s (“the organization”) goals and objectives set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and work with the Board to establish the organization’s direction. The Executive Director is responsible for proactively fundraising, developing, and executing the strategic plans to achieve the organization’s mission.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate with the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic plan, and execute the mission of the organization to foster a vibrant, safe, connected, and diverse Columbia Pike community.
  • Serve as chief liaison of the Columbia Pike Partnership to the community representing the organization in such a way as to enhance the community profile and promote organization activities
  • Manage relationships with Arlington County government, community stakeholders, business and civic leaders, and the Columbia Pike Partnership board, sponsors and volunteers.
  • Lead advocacy efforts for continued economic development and vitality of the Columbia Pike corridor
  • Support the implementation of Arlington County’s adopted initiatives and policies for Columbia Pike, including the existing Form Based Code (Commercial and Neighborhoods)
  • Lead fundraising and development efforts for Columbia Pike Partnership to support the economic stability of the organization
  • Lead marketing and communications strategies for Columbia Pike Partnership
  • Oversee all programs, placemaking, and event activities to ensure program objectives are met
  • Prepare and recommend annual plans and operating budgets to the Board for approval. Assure adherence to these plans, maintaining all organizational records, and provide the Board with periodic management reports, operating statements, and cost and program analyses
  • Manage the organization’s administrative office including supervising personnel and providing benefit and payroll administration

Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will be a highly energetic, creative self-starter with a proven track record of nonprofit leadership, community building and place-making, and personnel management. Candidates with experience in Partnership or Business Improvement District (BID) and/or city planning and commercial development are preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills and a working knowledge of standard administrative and accounting practices are required.

  • Nonprofit management and board governance required
  • Community Leadership
  • Managing people and staff development
  • Placemaking, event, and program management
  • Civic planning, zoning, and commercial development conversations
  • Working with diverse communities both culturally and economically
  • Ability to speak multiple languages preferred
  • Holds at least a Bachelor’s degree

Compensation

  • Under the current budget, the salary range is $110-$145k with opportunities for performance/growth-based bonus
  • Bonus Opportunities examples
    • Executive Director – Annual bonus of 30% net profit for the overall operating budget
    • Executive Director Performance – Up to $5k annual bonus based on successful execution of the strategic plan and annual goals of the Executive director. Final bonus value is to be determined by the compensation committee.
  • Bonus Incentive recommendations for both the Executive Director and staff to be calculated based on the financial success of events and overall budget management for the entire fiscal year. Bonuses are paid annually upon reconciliation of fiscal year finances. (Fiscal year end (6/30); books reconciled and bonus calculated in July and paid; expense allocated to prior fiscal year)
