The Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization (CPRO) is partnering with Signature Theatre to bring you “The Music of the Movies: Oscar Scores and Classic Musicals”.
Every weekend, from June 1 until September 1, some of the best musicals to grace the silver screen, plus films with unforgettable scores, will be shown at CPRO’s annual Movie Nights.
A total of twenty-eight films will be shown outdoors on Fridays at Arlington Mill Community Center and Saturdays at Penrose Square, with something for everyone in the family —
from ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Singin’ In The Rain’, and ‘West Side Story’, to ‘The Music Man’, ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Coco.’ All films are rated G, PG, or PG-13.
FRIDAY, JUNE 1 – “GREASE” at Arlington Mill Community Center
Experience the friendships, romances, and adventures of a group of high school kids in the 1950s. Welcome to the singing and dancing world of “Grease,” the most successful movie musical of all time. A wholesome exchange student named Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and a leather-clad Danny (John Travolta) have a summer romance, but will it cross-clique lines? (PG-13)
SATURDAY, JUNE 2 – “HAIRSPRAY” at Penrose Square
In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) auditions for a spot on “The Corny Collins Show” and wins. She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun, and fashion. Perhaps her new status as a teen sensation is enough to topple Corny’s reigning dance queen and bring racial integration to the show. (PG)
