This week, CPRO completed its 2 year banner program with the installation of 70 bright orange and blue banners along Columbia Pike from the Sheraton Pentagon City to Arlington Mill Community Center. The new banners add a joyful splash of color and provide a unified brand for the Arlington County stretch of the Pike.
The banner program officially launched in 2017. Over the following two years, CPRO received funding earmarked specifically for the design, fabrication, and installation of banners intended to create a unique and cohesive visual identity for the Arlington County stretch of Columbia Pike.
CPRO’s design partners, Winking Fish, completed the design in late 2018 and the first round of installations began early 2019. After a year of various challenges, from damaged poles to construction and changing vendors, CPRO has finally completed installation of over 70 banners along the Pike.
Maintenance will be required in the years to come and CPRO intends to install additional banners on poles not currently available due to multimodal construction on the western end of the Pike.
The banner program is funded by grants from the Washington Forrest Foundation, Arlington County, and Virginia Main Street (a program of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development).
